Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C, is a popular, all-in-one alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurance companies. These plans provide your Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) coverage and typically bundle Part D (prescription drugs) and extra benefits into a single plan. At Insurance Ease, our licensed agents are here to help you navigate your options and find a Medicare Advantage plan that aligns with your health needs, doctors, and budget.

Your Medicare Advantage Options

HMO Plans (Health Maintenance Organization)

Navigate coordinated care with a primary care physician (PCP). HMO plans typically require you to use doctors and hospitals within the plan’s network and get referrals from your PCP to see specialists. They often offer lower out-of-pocket costs and focus on preventive care.

PPO Plans (Preferred Provider Organization)

Enjoy greater flexibility in choosing healthcare providers. PPO plans allow you to see any doctor or specialist that accepts Medicare, both in and out of network, usually without a referral. Using in-network providers results in lower costs, giving you control over your care.

Medicare Advantage Questions

What is the difference between Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Original Medicare is provided directly by the federal government (Parts A & B), and you can add a separate Part D plan and a Medigap policy. Medicare Advantage (Part C) is offered by private companies as an alternative that bundles Parts A, B, and usually D into one plan, often including extra benefits, but typically with network restrictions.

Do I need a separate Part D plan with Medicare Advantage?

Most Medicare Advantage plans include Part D prescription drug coverage (MAPD plans). If you enroll in a plan that includes drug coverage, you cannot have a separate Part D plan. It's crucial to ensure the plan's formulary covers your specific medications.

Can I see any doctor with a Medicare Advantage plan?

It depends on the plan type. HMO plans usually require you to use in-network providers (except for emergencies). PPO plans allow you to see any provider that accepts Medicare, but you pay less when using the plan's in-network doctors and hospitals.

What is the maximum out-of-pocket limit?

Every Medicare Advantage plan is required to set a yearly limit on your out-of-pocket costs for Part A and B medical services. Once you reach this limit, the plan pays 100% for covered services for the rest of the year. This limit provides crucial financial protection.

Can I switch back to Original Medicare later?

Yes. You can generally leave your Medicare Advantage plan and return to Original Medicare during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 - December 7) or during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 - March 31).
